ReEmployAbility arranges a volunteer assignment with a local nonprofit organization in the injured employee’s community. Organizations such as American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, and local food banks,
museums or thrift stores provide supervised volunteer assignments that meet the medical requirements as outlined by the employees’ treating physician.
The Transition2Work program is appropriate for employees with occupational or non-occupational disabilities where the employee has been released to modified duty and would benefit from a short-term transitional assignment.
The primary objective of a transitional assignment is to assist the employee in returning to a productive work setting as soon as possible, which can impact the length of disability. Other benefits included:
Avoidance of “disability syndrome”
Improved self-esteem and outlook during recovery phase
Improved employment relationship through continuation of wages by the employer
Employee acquires alternative skill sets while volunteering
Reduces the indemnity claim costs that impact the employer’s experience modification and future premiums
Many union contracts have language specific to Return-to- work programs and approve employee participation in transitional duty programs with continuation of wages. ReEmployAbility provides services for many unionized employees and helps restore
workers’physical abilities sooner so they can return to their pre-injury occupations faster.
Placement time depends on factors such as location, attorney involvement, type of work restriction, and jurisdictional requirements. On average, ReEmployAbility is able to secure a suitable nonprofit assignment within 2 working days of receiving
a completed referral form and release to work from the treating physician.
Typically, the assignment lasts 30-90 days. ReEmployAbility’s fee covers the placement of the employee for up to one year of participation in the program. The claim should be reviewed by the employer and/or claim adjuster at timeframes consistent
with internal Human Resources and Return-to-Work policies and practices.
During the transitional assignment, the pre-injury employer pays a wage consistent with their Human Resources and Return-to-Work policies and in accordance with any jurisdictional requirements. ReEmployAbility does not require a contract and
our Transition2Work program can be used on demand. For our standard offering, we bill a one-time, flat fee for successful placement of the employee (where allowable by state law). In the event of non-participation, a reduced fee applies.
Supplemental services are available on an as needed basis.
ReEmployAbility can invoice the insurance carrier, TPA, or employer. In most cases, our fee is paid by the insurance carrier as an expense to the workers’ compensation claim or the employer for disability claims.
The Transition2Work program is an extension of the employer’s comprehensive Return-to-Work program. As with modified duty provided in-house, the employer pays a wage in accordance to their Return-to-Work and Human Resources policies while
the employee is participating in transitional duty off-site.
